Hashrate

Bitcoin hashrate is the number of hashes per second all miners together make while searching for the next block.

As of block 971,630 (15 Oct 2026, 23:05 UTC), miners make about 1,025 EH/s: 1,025 quintillion guesses a second.

How much computing power is working to find the next block. One EH/s is a quintillion guesses a second. More hashrate makes the network costlier to attack.

How is hashrate measured?

It isn't, directly: no one sees every miner. It is estimated from the difficulty and how fast blocks actually arrive. A block takes on average difficulty × 2³² hashes, so blocks coming faster than every 10 minutes mean more hashes are being made.

Why does hashrate matter?

Rewriting blocks needs more hashrate than the honest miners have together. The higher it is, the more an attack costs in machines and electricity.
